This guide will include useful information that I came across whilst completing the gen 2 living origin dex for my collection in Pokémon HOME. If you aren’t looking to transfer Pokémon, and only want to complete the dex in-game, that’s completely fine and this should still help, just keep in mind this guide was written to cater to those with a similar goal to myself.
I personally played through the games via the VC ports that were released on 3DS, so that is also going to be something to keep in mind as although I do try to advise where I can, I don’t 100% have the knowledge for what it takes to complete this generation with original hardware.
Overall, I was a little apprehensive about this one giving that gen 1 was a little tricky and got complicated when it came to the mythical. This time around felt way easier than Kanto though so it ended up being quite pleasant to play. There is no complicated ACE processes you need to do, and honestly you don’t necessarily need glitches in this generation to be able to complete it.
If you wanted to complete this entirely legitimately, it should feel quicker and easier than gen 1, although you will need to be able to trade with yourself if you want to avoid glitches/ACE entirely.
This guide will include work-arounds using glitches and ACE (arbitrary code execution) for those who don’t mind using them, or do not have two consoles to be able to trade with themselves.
Thankfully this time around the mythical is available legitimately in Crystal (VC).
